Bottling Messinian Heritage

Greka Icons, Greece

In Messinia, olive groves tumble towards the Ionian Sea and fig trees cling to stone terraces.

Greka Icons was created in 2012 to capture these landscapes in jars and bottles. The company’s philosophy is simple: use ancestral recipes and local ingredients to revive Messinia’s culinary history. Their flagship line, Navarino Icons, showcases the region’s staples.

It starts with oil

Koroneiki olives are hand‑picked and cold‑pressed within hours to produce a vibrant extra virgin olive oil. Kalamon olives are harvested at peak ripeness and cured in brine before being packed in the same oil. Pure Greek honey is bottled unheated and unfiltered, sometimes with honeycomb. Fruit marmalades—fig, mandarin and others—contain high fruit content and no preservatives. Pasteli bars combine sesame seeds with honey for a chewy, sweet snack. Savoury dips such as roasted red pepper & tomato or eggplant are made with fresh produce and olive oil. Even their biscuits are baked with olive oil, yogurt, raisins and thyme honey. Beyond food, Greka Icons creates silk scarves and ceramic dice inspired by Messinian motifs.

This attention to tradition is paired with modern sustainability initiatives

The company sources ingredients from nearby farms and collaborates with the Captain Vassilis & Carmen Constantakopoulos Foundation to promote sustainable agriculture. Products are exported across Europe, North America and Asia, showing that preserving the past can also build a global brand.

For us, Greka Icons offers authentic Greek flavours and a compelling narrative. A drizzle of Koroneiki oil, a spoonful of fig marmalade, a slice of pasteli—each taste connects your kitchen to Messinia’s groves and orchards. It’s about olive the past and loving the future, one jar at a time.

A Shared Philosophy

At Carnivale, we believe that the best food has an identity, dignity, and depth. It is a sentiment that Greka Icons embodies completely, understood through exploring their story. We are not here to shout about it. Our role is simply to listen, to translate, and to share. Together, we offer something timeless: flavor with a provenance, made by people who still believe in the enduring power of patience and of principle. Because in the end, it is not just about what you make, but why you make it.
